A variety of substitutes have been studied as
replacements for asbestos gaskets due
to the increased stringency of asbestos
regulations. DAI-EL fluoroelastomer is used
in engine head gaskets due to its high heat
resistance.

| Effects |
Engine head gaskets consisting of a thin stainless steel sheet coated with a fluoroelastomer coating can offer good
sealing against exhaust gases, lubricating oil and engine coolant. They have excellent heat resistance, oil resistance and
flow resistance, and can sufficiently withstand the cylinder head tightening torques and the repeated heating and cooling
which occurs when the engine is being used. In particular, a high degree of sealing is
provided even for small surface
pressures, so that recently their use has been increasing.In this example stainless steel plates with a DAI-EL latex coating
are laminated together for excellent flexibility, sealing properties, corrosion resistance,
and high temperature resistance.
