Fluorocarbon is a chemical compound part or all of whose hydrogen of hydrocarbon including methane and ethane were replaced with fluorine, and generally chemical compound in which chlorine is bound is also included. Depending on the structure of chemical compound, fluorocarbon consists of CFC, HCFC, and HFC, and of these, the targets to be totally abolished under Montreal Protocol are only CFC and HCFC, and HFC is not included.

It does not contain chroline and has hydrogen which do not destroy ozone layer.

Regulation of fluorocarbon and our response to it
1. Protection of Ozone layer
In accordance with Motreal Protocol, in developed countries, CFC was totally abolished in the end of 1995, and in order to reduce effects on ozone layer, from 1996, control on total amount of HCFC started, and development for alternative technology at the aim of full abolishement in the early stage took place globally. DAIKIN industries which is a sole manufacturer of start-to-finish production from fluorocarbon to air conditioning equipment focuses on development of HFC blend refrigerants, which replace HCFC-22 and R-502 widely used, do not destroy ozone layer and have superior characteristics in energy efficiency, producing and supplying HFC blend refrigerants .
2. Global warming issue
HFC is defined by Kyoto Protocol as a greenhouse gas. The amount of production and consumption of HFC is not regulated, however, the prevention of atmospheric emission by collection, recycling and destruction, and the prevention of leakage from equipment and the use of energy saving equipment are significant factors.
Recovery and destruction of fluorocarbon and reuse of HCFC-22 as resin building block
Daikin Industries, Ltd. has two fluorocarbon destruction facilities, each of which is located in Yodogawa (Osaka Pref.) and Kashima (Ibaragi Pref.) Plant. These facilities are operated under “Fluorocarbon Recovery and Destruction Law” and “Home Appliance Recycling Law” and Daikin effectively reuses the destructed compounds as fluorine-containing resources. With regard to recovered HCFC-22, Daikin recycles it as resin building block after judging its quality under “Home Appliance Recycling Law”.
