| When fluorine is bonded with other elements, it forms compounds with unique characteristics. Fluoropolymers can be used for non-stick surfaces that repel water and oils. These characteristics are useful in the production of household-use frying pans, hot plates, and the water- and oil-repellent possessing of clothing and other textiles. Fluoropolymers are also used widely as electric wire coatings for computer and other communication equipment due to their excellent insulation and electrical properties. Fluorochemical products, too, have a number of useful properties, such as high optical transmission, the selective permeation of gases, and resistance to severe climate conditions.

For example, fluorochemistry supplies next-generation materials used by the semiconductor industry in the fabrication of IC devices. In the communications field, fluorochemicals can be found in the insulation of LAN cables, as additives in the lithium ion batteries used in mobile phones, and as anti-soiling agents used on LCD panels. They are also used in moisture-proof containers for medicines and in weatherproof paint for buildings.

We have continued to lead the industry as specialists in fluorochemistry. We have tackled ozone depletion and global warming problems more seriously and earnestly than anyone else in the industry, and have succeeded in developing practical hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) that do not harm the ozone layer, as well as HFC-based refrigerants with high energy efficiency.
We were one of the first to open a production plant for HFC refrigerants, which are now employed in commercial-use air conditioners, residential-use air conditioners, and a variety of other types of refrigeration equipment.
