In cooperation with the NGO Conservation International, Daikin Industries, Ltd. held a tree-planting ceremony with M.S. Kaban, the Indonesian Minister for Forestry, in attendance to inaugurate the real start of our reforestation program in the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park in Indonesia.

M.S. Kaban, the Indonesian Minister for Forestry, arrived to a great reception by the local community and the tree-planting ceremony began.
After speeches by a representative of the national park and other guests, the Minister for Forestry said, "While preservation of remaining forests is important, since economic incentives for the local communities are also important, I am pleased with the agroforestry method used in this project in which the forest is regenerated and mixed crops are cultivated within it to achieve these goals."

General Manager Fujimoto from the Daikin Industries CSR and Global Environment Department touched on global warming, made a speech about the need for corporations to contribute to the preservation of the global environment and the contributions of Daikin Industries through its products and production processes.

In addition to the Minister, representatives from Daikin Industries and the local community and other guests planted five species of trees unique to the area inside the national park.

There is great interest in this project in Indonesia, and numerous members of the press and other media organizations came to cover the event. Reporters asked many questions to the Minister and the Daikin Industries representative.
Daikin Industries will undertake this project in Indonesia's Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park with the goals of achieving sustainable development including supporting the development of alternative livelihoods for the local communities and promoting their environmental education, and realizing reforestation that contributes to the preservation of biodiversity.
