Making Our Air Conditioners More Energy Efficient

Making Air Conditioners More Energy Efficient

The higher the coefficient of performance (COP*), the lower the energy consumption. Daikin is making air conditioners more energy efficient by developing a variety of technologies that save power.

* COP is the energy consumption efficiency. COP = cooling (heating) capacity (kW) divided by rated power consumption. In Japan, COP is the index for energy efficiency performance.

Developing Energy-efficient System

Convenience stores, which are open long hours, significantly impact the environment by consuming large amounts of energy for needs including air conditioning, refrigeration, and lighting. In order to provide solutions to this problem, Daikin has developed the CONVENI-PACK. This freezing, refrigeration, and air conditioning system is especially designed to help convenience stores reduce energy consumption by integrating freezing, refrigeration, and air conditioning capabilities into one. The system reduces annual energy consumption by approximately 50% compared to conventional systems by utilizing the heat exhausted from freezers and refrigerators for heating the store in winter. The system was widely recognized for its excellent energy-efficiency and won the fiscal 2003 Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry's Energy Conservation Grand Award* in Japan.

*Sponsored by the Energy Conservation Center, Japan.

Air Conditioning Network Service System

In buildings with multiple air conditioners that operate for long hours, efficient operation is vital for reducing electricity consumption. That's why the Daikin Group is developing energy efficient systems that give maximum effect with minimum energy. These systems control the entire air conditioning system, not just individual air conditioners, as well as refrigeration equipment systems. An example is the Air Conditioning Network Service System*. This system gives energy-efficient operation with minimum wasted energy by analyzing two factors: weather conditions around a customer's building based on forecasts from 850 weather stations around Japan; and calculations from remote monitoring systems based on the operating state of customers' air conditioners.

*Air Conditioning Network Service System is currently only available in Japan.
