What Daikin is Doing
3Rs and Repair
In addition to the 3Rs, reduce, reuse, and recycle, we're carrying out repair under an initiative we call "3R & Repair."

1.Repair
Using products for a long time contributes to the efficient use of resources.
To this end, Daikin set up a repair system by establishing the Daikin Contact Center in Japan and service centers in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou in China. All sites offer prompt service by taking repair requests 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In other regions of the world as well we are integrating our service centers with the aim of boosting our customer support systems.
2.Reduce
To reduce resources consumed, it is effective to produce more compact and light-weight products. However, it is technically difficult to design a more compact and light-weight air conditioner without degrading its energy efficiency. An increase in energy consumption as a result of the compactness and light weight does not mean an overall decrease in the environmental impact of the product. Therefore, we use a management index derived by dividing the product weight by its energy-efficiency rate (COP). One of our product development objectives is to reduce COP.
3.Reuse
While air conditioners generally have a long product life, changes in the market and the progress of technologies are extremely rapid.
These factors make it extremely difficult to reuse the components of used air conditioners in new products.
However, whenever possible, Daikin reuses components from the products used for relatively short period of time: as replacement components for service work, after replacing worn parts, and after completing operation tests.
4.Recycle
Recycling is indispensable for the efficient use of resources. That's why Daikin is doing the following:
| 1 |
Designing products with a view to recycling. Our flagship products are already 95% recyclable. In fiscal 2005, all newly development products achieved this recycling rate. |
| 2 |
With the start of the Home Appliances Recycling Law in March 2001 in Japan, we are collecting and recycling residential air conditioners. |
