A common goal of the entire Group is to build and operate ISO 14001-based environmental management systems (EMS) that will boost our environmental activities.
In Japan, all Daikin bases and subsidiaries come under an integrated EMS. We are currently working to establish an EMS that encompasses the systems at all bases, and we plan to have this in effect in 2010.
The Daikin Group has regular annual environmental audits: internal audits by Daikin itself and audits by third-party certification institutes. These help us check and constantly improve the functioning of our systems.
Overseas bases carry out mutual audits in which Daikin auditors audit other Daikin companies. This helps bases discover issues from a fresh perspective.
Audit in progress: Getting as many perspectives as possible
A company-wide internal environmental auditing team carries out regular legal audits once a year to ensure environmental risk is kept to a minimum.
If any accidents or calamities should occur, manufacturing bases and manufacturing subsidiaries are prepared to deal with the problem thanks to regular disaster prevention drills for all employees.
Environmental accounting is critical both for releasing environmentally related information and for managing a company in an environmentally effective manner.
The Daikin Group uses environmental accounting to determine worldwide environmental impact of business activities and to effectively and efficiently reduce this impact.
The Daikin Group has a variety of environmental education programs that get employees to think and take action by deepening their understanding of issues such as environmental management systems and how Daikin's business affects the environment.
Part of this education is e-learning over our intranet for employees both in Japan and overseas.
