Kashima Plant Resumes Complete Operations
- Legal Suspension Order Lifted for All Plant Facilities -

Daikin Industries, Ltd. announced today the complete resumption of operations at its plant in Kashima, Ibaraki, Japan (General Manager: Masahiko Amano, Daikin Senior Executive Officer), effective February 10, 2005. Following an explosion at its Fluororesin Production Facility No. 1 on January 13, 2004, operations were ordered suspended at eight of the plants production facilities under the High Pressure Gas Safety Law and three production facilities under the Fire Service Law. The Kashima Plant is responsible for production of tetrafluoroethylene, a fluorocarbon polymer building block.

As we worked to restore the plant, we had each of the facilities inspected by the Ibaraki Prefectural Government and the local fire service authority to ensure its safety. Operations resumed sequentially as the suspension orders were lifted.

With the removal of the Fire Service Law suspension order on the Fluororesin Production Facility No. 2, all legal suspension orders at the plant have been lifted.

Daikin takes this accident very seriously, and is making concerted efforts to ensure no such occurrence is ever repeated. In specific terms, out of the recognition that this issue demands company-wide attention, we will involve all our divisions, including the Chemicals Division, in ensuring that safety measures are in place. The Kashima Plant will resume operations, its facilities and equipment subject to safety review under the security system that was reinforced on April 1, 2004.
