Daikin Industries, Ltd. has decided to establish a new production facility for manufacture of ZEFFLE fluoropolymer coatings at the Changshu Factory of its subsidiary Daikin Fluorochemicals (China) Co. Ltd., (Head Office: Changshu Jiangsu), a company that manufactures and sells fluorochemical products in China. Mass production is scheduled to start from June 2013 at a planned capital investment of approximately 1.2 billion yen.
Accompanying infrastructure construction and development of environmental and energy-related industries, the Chinese market is particularly expected to increase within the globally expanding fluoropolymer coating market.
This new production facility combines with the Yodogawa Plant in Japan (Settsu, Osaka Prefecture) and Daikin Fluoro Coatings (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. in China to make three production sites for the manufacture of fluoropolymer coatings. Upon completion, production capacity will approximately triple to meet the expected rise in demand.
ZEFFLE fluoropolymer coatings excel in the areas of anti-fouling and weather-resistance, which are special characteristics of fluorine compounds, and, when a ZEFFLE fluoropolymer coating is applied, repainting is not needed for 15 to 20 years.
Even for important anti-corrosion applications where weather-resistance is particularly needed to maintain building structures in grueling environments such as bridges and chemical plants, ZEFFLE preserves a beautiful painted exterior and can protect the base material from rust and corrosion. Since repainting becomes unnecessary from long-term degradation, the environmental impact from waste accompanying repainting work can be reduced.
Furthermore, since the same level of protection efficiency can be obtained compared to conventional fluororesin films, costs are lowered by using the thin layer achieved with ZEFFLE in back sheet coating applications that protect solar battery cells.
In the future, we will attempt to further expand business and aim for 10 billion yen in ZEFFLE sales for 2015 by centering on important anti-corrosion applications, such as tall office buildings, long and massive bridges, and chemical plants; infrared reflective applications by painting the building exteriors and building rooftops, corresponding to power consumption needs that mitigate the air conditioning burden on interior spaces by reflecting the heat of the sun; and back sheet coating applications protecting solar batteries.
