CDP Selects Daikin Industries as a Climate Performance Leader

28 October 2014

Daikin Industries, Ltd. has been selected by CDP, an international not-for-profit organization advocating information disclosure concerning climate change such as amount of emissions for greenhouse gases, for inclusion in the NGO's Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI) for outstanding companies. This is the first time for Daikin to be selected.

CDP works with 767 institutional investors managing assets totaling US$92 trillion to motivate companies to disclose information and take measures for the impact their business operations have on the environment and natural resources. Questionnaires are sent to the more than 5,000 listed companies around the world asking such questions as a company's strategy for climate change, amount of greenhouse gas emissions, and energy usage. Approximately 2,000 companies disclose information, and this information is evaluated and scored.

CPLI, to which Daikin was selected this time, selects companies that distinguish themselves in their capacity for mitigating climate change and its risk and for disclosing information. There were 187 companies selected this fiscal year to the CPLI from around the globe, and 24 Japanese companies were among those selected.
Daikin was evaluated and selected for globally setting targets, steadily making reductions in greenhouse gases, and ensuring transparency by having the disclosed data receive third-party verification of emission amounts.

As a company that provides comfortable air environments worldwide, Daikin has advanced in its business by aiming for both environmental preservation and business expansion. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is one of its most important management themes. Furthermore, as a social contribution, Daikin is involved with the "Forests for the Air" Project, which was initiated to protect forests in seven regions of the world from the primary causes of deforestation such as illegal lumbering.

Daikin will continue to undertake environmental themes in the future from both sides of business growth and contribution to society to realize a sustainable society on a global scale.
