Japan's first commercial multi-split type air
conditioner is marketed

Daikin began marketing the multi-split type air conditioner named "VRV" for buildings that targeted small to medium size buildings. Compared to central air conditioning system which was the mainstream system that conditioned the entire building, the main feature was the individual air conditioning only for occupied rooms. This enabled both greater comfort and energy-saving operation to realize lower running costs. Since then, VRV has become the most common air conditioning system for small to medium size buildings in Japan.
