Assuring the supply of water resources

The destruction of forests also leads to the deterioration of watershed ecosystems.

20 million people living in three provinces and nine regions rely on Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park and the surrounding area as their water source.
It provides water to the capital Jakarta, as well as Bogor, Tangerang, Bekasi and other large cities nearby.

This area is the location of sources of water used for irrigation, industry and drinking in over 3 million hectares of land used for agriculture and industry.
Over three million hectares of land used for agriculture and industry also rely on this area as their water source for irrigation, industry and drinking.

Restoration of forests also contributes to increasing the protection of the watershed. By storing much rain water underground and leveling the amount of water that flows into rivers, healthy forests can also prevent flooding, landslides and other natural disasters.

The water stored in this region is irreplaceable source of life for the animals, plants and the people in the area.
