Daikin Europe N.V. (Headquarters: Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium), a European subsidiary of Daikin Industries, Ltd., held a ceremony at the De Bijloke Music Center (Ghent, Belgium) on October 12, local time, commemorating the 50th anniversary of its establishment. The ceremony included a video message from Belgium’s Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and was attended by more than 600 people including Yasushi Masaki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Permanent Mission of Japan to the European Union, and Masahiro Mikami, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Belgium together with local dignitaries and business leaders.

At the commemorative ceremony, Prime Minister Alexander De Croo commented on the occasion by saying, “Our strong relationship celebrates 50 remarkable years today. We share the Japanese culture of excellence, and we have the same long-term vision for a better future for all. That makes us partners in the green transition and allies in the fight against climate change.”

Daikin Industries Chairman Noriyuki Inoue followed this by saying, “Daikin positions Europe, which has a high environmental awareness, as an extremely important region, and we believe that it is Daikin Europe’s mission to lead the Daikin Group in promoting the widespread use of environmental technologies.”

Daikin Europe began in 1973 with the start of Daikin manufacturing in Ostend. Since then, the business has expanded throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Today Daikin Europe has operations in the EMEA spanning 129 countries and including 52 sales companies with more than 13,700 employees. The company develops and makes the vast majority of its products in the region to meet local needs. Daikin Europe has 12 research and development centers and 14 factories in the countries of the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and Spain. In recent years, it has strengthened the development and production of environmental technologies in Europe by investing 140 million euros in a research and development center for heat pump heating technology in Ghent and 300 million euros in the construction of a factory in Poland to manufacture residential heat pump heating.

On the same day it celebrated its founding, Daikin Europe held a "Sustainability Conference" in Ghent, aiming for carbon neutrality in the future. The conference was attended by approximately 30 people as international environmental experts, partners, and dignitaries. Honorary guests included Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium and Mrs. Laura Cozzi, Director, Sustainability, Technology and Outlooks at the International Energy Agency (IEA). Discussions centered on the importance of public-private cooperation to create a fair, competitive environment for technology.

Because Europe is an environmentally advanced region, Daikin rates the region as one of the company’s most important in its strategic management plan “Fusion 25.” In moving forward, Daikin intends to continue strengthening the development of its environmental technologies, including heat pump technology, achieve further growth and development in the European market, which is the center of environmental management, and leverage these types of activities to facilitate environmental contributions worldwide by the Daikin Group.
