Daikin to Speak at Nine COP31 Sessions,
Focusing on Building Decarbonization

Driving discussions on energy efficiency, electrification and refrigerant lifecycle management
to reduce buildings’ lifecycle CO₂ emissions

OSAKA, Japan, November 4, 2026 – Daikin Industries, Ltd. today announced that it will speak at a total of nine sessions at the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), to be held in Antalya, Türkiye, from November 9 to 20, 2026. Daikin will speak primarily at the Resilient Cities, Buildings and Cooling Pavilion, co-hosted by the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC), the UNEP Cool Coalition, UN-Habitat and other organizations, as well as at the COP31 presidency's Türkiye Pavilion and the Japan Pavilion hosted by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan. The sessions will focus on decarbonizing buildings through energy efficiency, electrification and refrigerant lifecycle management. Daikin will discuss the challenges to wider adoption of these technologies and solutions, as well as its future initiatives, with representatives of governments, international organizations and companies.

Buildings currently account for about 37%*1 of global energy- and process-related CO2 emissions, of which about 50%*2 is attributed to space cooling, space heating and water heating. Türkiye, the COP31 presidency, has set targets in its action agenda to reduce the energy intensity of the building sector by at least 25% by 2035 and to raise the share of electricity in final energy demand to 35%. Daikin aims to contribute to achieving these targets through three approaches: energy efficiency, by promoting high-efficiency inverter air conditioning; electrification, by using heat pumps for space and water heating; and refrigerant lifecycle management, by properly collecting refrigerants when air conditioners are replaced or disposed of.

At the Resilient Cities, Buildings and Cooling Pavilion, Daikin will speak at the session "Delivering Low-Carbon Buildings through Efficiency, Electrification and Heat Pumps" on November 10. Daikin will introduce its initiatives to accelerate the electrification of buildings with heat pumps, and will join government officials from Germany and other countries to discuss the policy, market and technical barriers to heat pump adoption, including energy prices, financial support, building renovation, and workforce and skills shortages. On November 11, at the session "Scaling Finance for the Electrification and Retrofit of Buildings," participants will discuss solutions to financing challenges for building electrification and energy-efficiency retrofits, as well as the roles of public-private partnerships and finance.

At the Türkiye Pavilion, Daikin will speak at the session "Building a Circular Cooling and Heating Economy" on November 11. Drawing on Türkiye's "Zero Waste" approach, Daikin will emphasize the importance of refrigerant lifecycle management, which means properly collecting and managing refrigerants when air conditioners are replaced or disposed of, in order to reduce refrigerant-related emissions.

At the Japan Pavilion, Daikin will speak at six sessions on themes including the transition to a circular economy, cooling technologies, clean electrification and resilience, starting with "Decarbonizing Buildings Across the Whole Value Chain: From Calculation to Reduction," organized by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, on November 12. Daikin will also hold a booth exhibition within the pavilion, showcasing buildings’ lifecycle CO2 reductions through energy efficiency, electrification and collecting refrigerant.

Through its speaking sessions and exhibition at COP31, Daikin will communicate its approach to decarbonizing buildings, along with its technologies and solutions, and deepen dialogue and collaboration with governments, international organizations and companies. By turning these international discussions into concrete action and promoting energy efficiency, electrification and refrigerant lifecycle management, Daikin will contribute to reducing buildings’ lifecycle CO2 emissions and help build a sustainable society.
