Daikin Park Rolls Out The Blue Carpet for Its Big-League Debut with Houston Astros and City of Houston

The on-field networking event brought together Houston powerhouses before the 2025 opening season to celebrate the ballpark’s new moniker

HOUSTON, Texas, February 28, 2025 – Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, Inc. (Daikin) and the Houston Astros hosted an event on Wednesday, February 26 to celebrate Daikin Park ahead of the first season as the home of the Houston Astros.

The event was attended by Houston Astros leadership, City of Houston elected officials, Consul General Zentaro Naganuma, and the Greater Houston Partnership along with business leaders such as Daikin Comfort Technologies, North America, Inc.’s CEO Satoru Akama, Representative, Americas Chairman of the Board Jiro Tomita, and Executive Vice President and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Taka Inoue. It featured remarks, networking and a commemorative sake barrel tapping ceremony complete with a crowd toast as a nod to Daikin’s Japanese heritage. The celebration, which is commonly performed at business events recognizing the launch of a new venture, officially signaled the beginning of an exciting era for Daikin’s U.S. headquarters in Houston, the city, Astros fans and park visitors.

“It was a special occasion bringing together the City of Houston, the local business community and our new ballpark partner Daikin to celebrate the beginning of our collaborative new partnership,” said Jim Crane, Owner and Chairman of the Houston Astros. “Daikin is a best-in-class global organization that is committed to investing in the Houston community. Our shared values are evident, and we are proud to support them through the game of baseball. On behalf of the Astros and all of our partners represented, we’re excited to start playing baseball at Daikin Park!”

“Houston is an international city that welcomes the world, and it is fitting that a globally respected Japanese company is partnering with our hometown team. Daikin has created jobs and opportunity for thousands of Houstonians, and we are thrilled they have stepped up to support our community in such a big way,” said Steve Kean, President and CEO of the Greater Houston Partnership. “As Daikin’s name now becomes part of Houston’s story in a whole new way, countless Houstonians and visitors will be introduced to a company that represents innovation, excellence and an enduring commitment to Houston.”

“The name of this stadium, ‘Daikin Park’, is a symbol of the deep trust the Astros and Houstonians place in Daikin and Japan,” said Consul General Zentaro Naganuma. “Japan is the largest investor in the United States over the past five years, and, in Texas, has created the largest number of jobs through foreign direct investment. Like other Japanese companies, Daikin makes significant contributions to its local communities. Daikin also represents the very best of Japan’s values: innovation, precision, and unwavering commitment to quality.”

Hitting a Homerun for the Community and Future Generations

The Houston Astros’ season opener against the New York Mets is on Thursday, March 27, 2025. Leading up to the big day and throughout the season, Daikin will partner with the ball club and Houston Astros Foundation to bring new community programming.

The organizations will roll out two exciting new programs in 2025 to emphasize education and sustainability. To support future generations, Daikin’s Most Valuable STEAM Scholarship program that officially launches on March 3, will provide students with the opportunity to excel in the field of their choice. In addition, Daikin’s community cooling program will focus on directly giving back to those in the community who need it the most by installing state-of-the-art HVAC equipment to ensure comfort for all.

Jiro Tomita, Representative, Americas Chairman of the Board for Daikin, added, “Through ‘Daikin Park,’ Daikin is committed to fostering collaboration with the Astros, the City of Houston, the City Council, and the Greater Houston Partnership. Our goal is to expand our efforts in contributing to the society, starting here in Houston and extending throughout the U.S.”

About Houston Astros

The Houston Astros are an American professional baseball team based in Houston, Texas. The Astros compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) West Division. Established as the Houston Colt .45s, the Astros entered the National League as an expansion team in 1962. The current name, Houston Astros, reflecting Houston’s role as the host of the Johnson Space Center and space exploration, was adopted three years later, when they moved into the Astrodome. The Astros moved to their current home ballpark in downtown Houston in 2000. The Astros have had great success on the diamond, having won two World Series (2017 and 2022), five league pennants, and advanced to a record-setting seven-straight American League Championship Series, winning four of the last seven American League pennants.

A tenant of the organization is to give back to the greater Houston community, and that is done through the Astros Foundation, the official 501(c)(3) team charity of the Houston Astros. The foundation seeks to harness the passion of baseball fans to support youth baseball and softball programs, the recognition and honor of our nation’s military, childhood cancer awareness, domestic violence awareness and efforts to reduce homelessness. The cornerstone initiatives include the Community Leaders program, the Astros Youth Academy and the Astros RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) Program.
