Collaborations with Start-ups

In November 2019, Daikin initiated a partnership with Fairy Devices Inc., a start-up from the University of Tokyo, to improve work efficiency and quality through the creation of connected workers*1 in maintenance and inspection services for air conditioners. Combining the voice recognition, edge AI, and data analysis technologies of Fairy Devices with the frontline expertise accumulated by Daikin through its operations around the globe, both companies work together to resolve issues faced by service operations.
It is important to have a wealth of patents and IP strategies using such patents to accelerate the establishment of de-facto standards for on-site digital transformation (DX) and global expansion. In FY2021, therefore, we began to establish and expand our global intellectual properties portfolio in the technical fields regarding the development and improvement of CWS and implementation of air conditioners into on-site operations. We established our intellectual properties portfolio based on patents owned by us, and expanded it by increasing the number of patents globally, aiming to ensure advantages as pioneers in the related technical fields as well as accelerate the global on-site DX. We also work with other companies to sophisticate on-site DX through the utilization of the intellectual properties portfolio for open innovations.

Industry-Government-Academia Partnership

Daikin has strived to realize co-creation innovations through industry-government-academia partnerships.
For example, we have worked to achieve air value through the creation and social implementation of future technologies and business models with faculty and a venture at the University of Tokyo, worked with information science specialists at Osaka University on the creation of safe and secure air and space on the new campus (Minoh), and worked on the realization of next-generation smart buildings. Sustainability Report

Through industry-government-academia partnerships, we promote cooperation with the Intellectual Property Department to establish patent portfolios, and discuss and grant incentives to inventors who have contributed to Daikin businesses to accelerate social implementation of joint research results striving to achieve win-win relationships with our partners.
