Becoming a creative Intellectual Property Department Intellectual Property Group Takeo Abe, Dept. manager Becoming a creative Intellectual Property Department Intellectual Property Group Takeo Abe, Dept. manager

The Daikin Intellectual Property Group considers and establishes strategies to protect and utilize intellectual properties developed in the process of technical development and business for future growth of our business.

The Intellectual Property Department has mainly engaged in the acquisition of rights for Technical Department inventions.
However, we have recently redefined the desirable features of the IP Department.
Now we are evolving into a creative department that establishes strategies to protect and utilize intellectual properties that can be used for the company’s future growth by gathering knowledge on technologies, laws, and business, and executes those strategies in acquiring rights and concluding contracts.

Daikin Industries, Ltd. is actively working on the following initiatives:

  • Creating external co-creation frameworks to achieve win-win relationships among participants
  • Open strategies, such as the granting of free worldwide access to basic patents for the use of R-32 refrigerant
  • Analysis of both competitor and potential trends considering intellectual properties as naturally verbalized information
  • Protecting intellectual properties (data, etc.) that cannot be protected under specific rights through the conclusion of contracts
  • Forming patent portfolios that prevent the entry of other companies considering the future of the business

The Intellectual Property Group continues taking on challenges beyond the conventional framework of our business to achieve the goal of realizing the sustainable growth of both the Daikin Group and the society.
